Botox
Botox® can be used for the treatment of wrinkles, frown lines, crows feet, muscular spasms, tension headaches and migraine. Botox® is the brand name for 'type a' botulinum toxin. This is a purified form of the toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. Originally, it was developed to treat muscular spasm. However, it is becoming one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures. Botox® based treatment is carried out by one of our specially trained dentists.

How does Botox® work?
Botox® works by blocking the release of a chemical called acetylcholine, preventing nerve impulses travelling to the facial muscles. It is a unique product as it actually stops your ability to frown therefore keeping the skin smooth.

Procedure
Botox® is administered using a very fine needle in tiny quantities into specific anatomical sites. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes. Most patients experience and report minimal discomfort. After treatment you may experience a mild headache, minor swelling or bruising around the administration site: these symptoms usually resolve within 24-48hours.

How long does Botox® take to work?
The effect of Botox® is not immediate. It may take up to 10 days to see the full result. You will be asked to return at this time, allowing one of our dentists to check your progress and for you to provide feed back on your result.

How long do the effects last?
In most cases the treatment results last for 4-6 months reducing in effect thereafter. Further administration of Botox® is required to maintain your wrinkle free appearance. The continued use of Botox® can prevent new wrinkles from forming. The more treatments you have the more effective it becomes.
