Why are Dental Implants used?
The use of dental implants in London treatment and osseointegration has been well-documented for the last 30 years. A multitude of scientific literature and clinical experience has backed this treatment option. Getting dental implants treatment can:
- Replace one or more teeth without affecting any adjacent teeth
- Support a bridge and eliminate the need for a removable denture.
- Provide support and retention for a denture.
- Preserve the bone to avoid that “caved-in” look.
- Help you finally discard your dentures for good!
How long does a dental implant last?
Dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth and can last a lifetime if properly cared for. There are many factors that affect the longevity of dental implants, including the types of materials used for implants, the age of the patient and steps taken to maximise the implant’s lifespan.
At Smile Cliniq, we have a high rate of success. We only use the finest materials and provide comprehensive after-care to help you keep your implant looking great for longer. Over 95% of our patients have dental implants lasting ten years or more. Investing in affordable dental implants is a long-term solution to your dental problems.
Getting Dental Implants in London: Our Procedure
You’re in safe hands at the Smile Cliniq. Here’s what to expect when you come for teeth implants at our clinic.
The initial consultation, assessment and planning will occur with one of our dentists here at the Smile Cliniq. At our clinics, you’re always in control. The initial meeting will answer any questions you may have, such as, “how long does the implant last?”, “What does the implant look like?” and “are dental implants painful?”. Our dentists are fully available to put your mind at ease and put you in control of the treatment you receive.
In your initial appointment, the options appropriate to your case will be thoroughly discussed. The dentist may show you preoperative pictures to explain your current situation. Your tooth shade may be taken so we can match the colour of your existing teeth to your new implant for a natural look. Impressions may also be taken to allow our ceramist to provide a diagnostic wax-up, which will physically allow you to visualise and approve the intended outcome. You may then require specialised imaging in computerised tomography (CT scan). This scan will allow your dentist to have a 3D reconstruction of your jaws, facilitating better planning for the best outcome.
One key issue our dentists are looking for in this initial appointment is the condition of your jawbone. Suppose there is an insufficient quality and quantity of bone to place your dental implant into. In that case, osseointegration (the integration of your new dental implant into your jaw bone) will be compromised. Osseointegration is key to the success of your dental implant procedure, so if the bone is not deemed sufficient, you may require a bone augmentation procedure. This procedure will happen first, allowing your dental implant to have optimal results and securely fit into your jaw bone. Don’t worry – your dentist will discuss all the eventualities and possibilities in the initial stages before your treatment. We will never decide without your consent, and we will explain all our findings in your appointment. If you have questions or would like to book an appointment for an initial consultation, contact us now.
Following your initial appointment, the dentist will schedule the next steps of your dental implant. While a same day dental implant is not always possible, the dentist will endeavour to find an appointment quickly at a time that suits you.
The placement of a single dental implant is a relatively straightforward procedure. It is routinely carried out under local anaesthetic, with many patients reporting that it is easier than tooth extraction. The implant will be fitted into your bone in this appointment, and you may not leave this appointment with your full implant completed. However, in the interim period, you may be provided with a provisional restoration of the highest calibre and aesthetics.
Many dental implant treatments require a second stage once osseointegration has occurred. Performed under local anaesthetic, the buried implant is uncovered, with impressions taken. These are then sent to our Smile Cliniq ceramist, who will handcraft your aesthetic crown or bridge. Again, you may be provided with a provisional restoration in the interim period.
At your next, and final, visit, the provisional restoration (if present) is carefully removed, and your custom-made crown or bridge is tried out. If you are happy with the fit and the appearance, your dentist will cement or screw in the restoration to the implant. If not, we can make changes to your liking. We always leave our patients with a smile on their faces!
